Sudan War: Don’t Undermine FG’s Effort To Repatriate Nigerians–IPC-Nigeria Boss Tells NLC
Following the statement made by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC to President Muhammadu Buhari not to allow Nigerians in Sudan to die as a result of negligence, the Head of Mission, International Peace Commission, IPC-Nigeria, Amb Hussaini Haruna Coomassie has urged the union to stop making statements that undermine the efforts of the Federal Government to score cheap publicity.
According to Coomassie, the FG has put in place mechanisms to evacuate Nigerians stuck in the war-torn area of the country and such statement is unnecessary and calculated towards raising unwarranted tension.
He explained that as a peace loving organisation, they are geared towards promoting and encouraging peaceful co-existing than making utterances that may cause confusion.
“I think NLC misfired by their statement. They should have interacted with the federal government to know how far they have gone with the new regime in Sudan rather than posting comments on social media based on instigation and that is tantamount of breaching peaceful co-existence amongst the people.
“The FG and the AU have been on crucial talks with the new military leadership in Sudan since taking over of government. It will interest NLC to know that borders are usually closed as soon as there is a coup in any country and no one is allowed to use their airspace even on transit without their approval.
“FG via MFA and Diaspora Commission are on top of the situation and it will be sorted out sooner than expected, Insha ALLAH. The Nigerian government is not that heartless to allow their citizens to perish in Sudan, past evacuation exercises in Libya and Ukraine have successfully been executed, just to mention a few. I can also cite similar exercises by the FG during the Arab Spring successfully evacuated Nigerians in Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Tunisia, Algeria etc… then Sudan shouldn’t be exceptional.
“We should rather preach peace and provide solutions that will assist the federal government in difficult situations such as this and definitely not to instigate citizens against the government with provocative publications just as NLC is doing. As a peace maker, I took it upon myself and have contacted stakeholders regarding the Sudan situation for the past 3 days and I’m confident that the dispute will be settled at the negotiating table sooner than expected, Insha ALLAH,” Amb Coomassie added.
