16,000 liters of premium motor Spirit PMS has been Impounded by Officials of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp NSCDC in Calabar from dubious business men who engage in shady deals.
Our reporter learnt that the petroleum Product was stolen and stored at different locations in the state by brisk business men and women with out knowing that the bubble can get burst.
The stolen PMS are said to be mainly Automotive Gas Oil, (AGO) otherwise known as diesel were stored in drums and large jericans and hidden in different trailer parks in the state.
Speaking on the issue, Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp NSCDC, (Cross River State branch), Mr. Samuel Fadeyi, stressed that the 16,000 litres of petroleum products seized by Officials of NSCDC was pilfered and stored at different points in the state by fruadulent dealers.
The commandant who stated this yesterday in Calabar while on inspection tour of the impounded petroleum products, averred that the search became necessary after an instruction from the Commandant General of NSCDC, that some activities were going on in parks.
He averred that they went around trailer parks in Cross River and discovered that hawkers indeed had a lot of petroleum products stored in drums and hidden.
He maintained that the stored petroleum products was a highly regulated field and required a license for anyone to go into it because of the danger it could pose to the society if not properly handled.
“Within the last two weeks, we have impounded about 16,000 litres of AGO from different spots in the state.
“Some of the places we went to, we met a lot of hostilities, so we make sure that we destroy the capacity of the perpetrators from continuing in the business and quickly exit the area to avoid human casualties.
“Some of these hawkers work like cartels, once they see security officials they attack and escape but we make sure we impound the products.” The state Commandant stated.
