Members of Labour Party in the Southern part of Kaduna State have endorsed the Senatorial Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barr. Sunday Marshall Katung ahead of the 25th February general elections.
The Labour Party members, who made this known during a Press Conference in a Kafanchan, the headquarters of the Senatorial District, rejected the candidate of their party, Mr. Michael Ayuba Auta.
The members, who came under the umbrella body of Southern Kaduna Coalition Group of the Labour, said “the people of southern Kaduna deserve better and Barr. Sunday Marshall Katung is by far better than the candidate of our party or any of the other candidates in this regard.”
The convener of the group and a major stakeholder of the Labour Party, Hon. Jonah Bonet Pompo told Journalists that “we cannot in good conscience support the Senatorial Candidate of our party given his record as a serial betrayer and untrustworthy personality. It is common knowledge, for instance, that Mr. Auta has for a long time paraded himself as an Engineer, whereas he is not. He also have been involved in several cases bothering on breach of trust some of which are allegedly still with the EFCC as we speak.”

TEXT OF A PRESS CONFERENCE BY LABOUR PARTY’S COALITION OF SUPPORT GROUPS IN SOUTHERN KADUNA.
1. Gentlemen of the Press, we invited you here to brief you on the political happenings in Southern Kaduna, especially as they affect our Senatorial District and the Labour Party in particular ahead of the 2023 general elections.
2. As stakeholders and members of the Labour Party, we have been under pressure from members of our party to openly declare support for the Senatorial Candidate of our party, Mr. Michael Ayuba Auta, hence our resolve to inform the world and the people of Southern Kaduna of the decision reached at the end of our meeting in respect thereof.
3. As members of the Labour Party, it is pertinent at this point to tell the world that we will not be voting the Senatorial Candidate of our party or be inbolved in any activity geared towards galvanising support for his election; instead, we have unanimously agreed to endorse the Senatorial Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barr. Sunday Marshall Katung.
4. We cannot in good conscience support the Senatorial Candidate of our party given his record as a serial betrayer and untrustworthy personality. It is common knowledge, for instance, that Mr. Auta has for a long time paraded himself as an Engineer, whereas he is not. He also have been involved in several cases bothering on breach of trust some of which are allegedly still with the EFCC as we speak.
5. The people of southern Kaduna deserve better and Barr. Sunday Marshall Katung is by far better than the candidate of our party or any of the other candidates in this regard.
We are not prepared to vote or support someone with questionable character to represent Southern Kaduna at the Senate simply because of party loyalty. For a man who has allegedly engineered and ensured the closure of Nok University by EFCC-the only university in Southern Kaduna where hundreds of our people are employed and eeking a living. Any candidate of a political party with such dubious character must not be trusted with political office.
6. Our support and endorsement of PDP’s Sunday Marshall Katung should not, in any way, be misconstrued as an anti-party activity. Instead, we should be applauded for our courage to expose who Mr. Michael Auta truly is so that we do not end up with a rogue as our Senator come 2023.
7. Meanwhile, the endorsement of the PDP’s Senatorial Candidate, does not in anyway invalidate our resolve to work for the success of our Presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi and our gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Jonathan Asake. We are committed to mobilising at least one million votes for the Obi-Datti ticket ahead of the presidential elections next month. For us, it is Southern Kaduna first, before any political party.
Signed
Hon. Jonah Bonet (Pompo)
Converner,
Southern Kaduna Coalition Group, Labour Party.
