The Controller Nigerian Correctional Service Zamfara State Command, Dr. Umar Galadima, said that his command use to work closely with other sister agencies and also play a complimentary role to ensuring peaceful conduct of elections across the state.
He noted that the Nigerian police in the state plays leadership role when it comes to electioneering process, adding that his men subsequently provides maximum support.
Speaking with Journalists in Gusau through his Assistant Controller Operations, Acc. Dominic Ambrose Ago, explained that the command is having cordial relationship with other sister agencies in the state.
Mr. Dominic further explained that the Nigeria Correctional Service doesn’t deploy it men directly to man the polling units but usually provide good number of personnel to work in collaboration with the Nigerian Police who are constitutionally empowered.
“As we all know, the Nigerian Police is the lead agency when it comes to electioneering process. The Nigerian Correctional Service only play a complimentary role in ensuring peaceful conduct of elections. Honestly speaking, and according my knowledge, we have been able to contribute our quota.
“You know, we do not have good number of personnel to man polling units like the police. But to the best of my knowledge we did a very good job”, he said.
The Controller however maintained that despite releasing his men for election duties, that the command always make sure that the custodia centers were not jeopardized but properly maned.
“Even if we release our men for the election duties, we make sure that our custodia centers were not jeopardized but properly maned. We do not want anything to take us unaware. So, we make sure that our area is also covered in as much as we provide assistance to the police”.
Speaking on the synergy between them and other sister agencies, Ago said, it is perfect. He added that it remains cordial and robust.
“Our relationship is perfect, cordial, and robust with great cooperation amongst the security agencies”, he added.
