Tension has enveloped most parts of Plateau state, following announcement of result local government elections results conducted Wednesday in some parts of Plateau state.
Chairman of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) Fabian Ntung, announced the result Thursday in Jos, at the commission headquarters, indicating that APC won in eleven local government areas.
According to the results as announced by the commission, APC won in eleven local government areas, out of the 13 local government areas where the elections were held. The elections could not be conducted in four council areas due to insecurities.
However, the People’s Democratic Party PDP has said they will not accept the results as announced by PLASIEC.
Contrary to the PLASIEC announcement, PDP chairman in Plateau state Damishi Sango, in a press conference held at the party secretary in Jos, Thursday, shortly after the announcement, the party chairman told Journalists that PDP won in 12 out of the 13 local government areas.
“We (PDP) won in 12 out of the 13 local government areas where the elections were conducted, I can a sure you (Journalists) that only in Kanam loal government area that we (PDP) didn’t do well.” Sango stated.
The PDP chairman said he has intimated security chiefs of the state, to hold governor Simon Lalong responsible should political violence broke out in the state as a result of the local government elections.
“I spoke to the commissioner of police, Plateau state command and the state director of security service (DSS) a short while ago intimating them on the present sad development, and made it clear to them that governor Lalong should be held responsible for any breach of peace in the state should he and his cohorts continue on the dangerous path they have chosen to tread.” Sango explained.
The party chairman informed that the action of PLASIEC to have announced the results before the returning officers returned from collation centres to the headquarters of the commission in Jos, was an invitation to anarchy.
“It is clear that they (APC government) have lost same, and are hell bent on plunging the state into yet another needless political crisis.”
Sango alleged that PLASIEC chairman fabricated the local government elections results as announced by the commission “the commission PLASIEC are not using results from the field, where the elections were held.” Sango mainted.
Mr. Sango, a former minister of sport, revealed that PDP agents were chased away from polling units and at collation centres, while returning officers for the local government elections disappeared at collation centres to unknown destinations.
Already, some electortes have blocked most major routes linking to Jos, the Plateau state capital.
The situation is more prevailing at Plateau central along Mangu, Maraban Kantoma junction preventing free flow of traffic. The situation is said to be same at Bassa and Langtang north, at southern Plateau state.
