According to a statement made available to Journalists on Thursday March 16, 2023 in Sokoto, through the Public Relations Officer, Zone 10, ASP Uthman Yaqub Muhammed, said that Mr. Bello Makwashi has assumed duties as the new Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of election zone 10, Sokoto.
The statement also noted that the deployment was to further strengthen the credibility and fairness of the forthcoming 2023 Gubernatorial and state Houses of Assembly elections in Zone 10 Police headquarters.
“The Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has deployed AIG Bello Makwashi to monitor and take charge of election security in zone10, which comprises of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara states, respectively.
“The deployment was to further strengthen the credibility and fairness of the forthcoming 2023 Gubernatorial and state Houses of Assembly elections in Zone 10.
“While AIG Bello Sani Dalijan has been posted to Zone 1 Police headquarters Kano for the 2023 Gubernatorial and State Houses of Assembly Election”, the statement said.
The statement added that the zonal headquarters enjoined the good people of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States for their prayers, support, encouragement, cooperation and assuring free, fair, creditable and successful.
“We, therefore, solicit for your prayers support, encouragement, cooperation and committed to ensuring a peaceful, free, fair, credible, and successful 2023 Gubernatorial and State Houses of Assembly election” it added.
In a separate statement, the AIG assured the people of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States adequate security and a level playing ground during the election as directed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba.
It added that Mr. Makwashi, have directed all Commissioners of Police and Strategic Commanders deployed for the exercise to mobilize all resources at their disposal to protect the electorates, INEC officials and the sensitive materials.
“The AIG assured the people of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States of adequate security and a level playing ground during the election as directed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba.
“The AIG Bello Makwashi have also charged Commissioners, Sector Commanders, tactical Commanders, officers and men of the force to be guided by the rules provided in the revised standard operational guidedline/rules for Police and other law enforcement agents on election duties”, it said.
Similarly, the AIG ceased the opportunity to advice Politicians within the zone to play according to the rules of the game while also admonishing parents not to allow their children to be used as political thugs.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, therefore, assures the good people of the zone that the Nigeria Police Force in synergy with other security agencies will ensure adequate security throughout the electoral process.
