Senator Shehu Sani: A Parliamentarian Per Excellence

The major responsibility of the legislature in most democracies the worldover is to make laws for the good governance of the society. Accordingly, those elected into the legislature are usually immersed in law making process to justify their mandate. However, some legislators with vision and progressive ideas veer into the populist activities that have the potentials and capabilities to touch the lives of their people. It is against this backdrop that a discourse of the parliamentary journey of Senator Shehu Sani can becomes imperative.

Senator Shehu Sani, the man representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the hallowed red chamber of the National Assembly, is one of the notable visionary and outstanding parliamentarian of the time. Contemporarily, the Senator remain a force to be reckon with in all parliamentary activities in the Nigerian Senate. As matter of fact, he is one of the very few that has sponsored most of bills at the Senate and the best from Kaduna State. He spearheaded the groundbreaking investigation that indicted the immediate past Secretary to the Federal Government of corruption. This has endeared him to not only his colleagues but the Nigerian public as a staunch supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti corruption crusade. His membership of other committees have proved worthwhile particularly the Committee on Local and Foreign Debt he is chairing. The committee has refused to be toss around by vested interests. Rather, they have stand on their feet to ensure that all states across the federation seeking for loan have fulfill the guidelines and conditions. In the aspect of foreign affairs, he performance are unmatched.

Conscious of the economic predicament of the vulnerable among his constituents, the Senator has commenced in phases, the implementation of a comprehensive Youths/Women Empowerment Programme through skill acquisition training. In Tudun Wada (his ward) alone, he has empowered more than thousand vulnerable people. In addition, working in collaboration with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), he flagged-off the empowerment programme which began last December with hundreds participants. According to him, the programme is geared towards providing an antidote to the embarrassing situation of unemployment and help to attain economic self-reliance for the beneficiaries.

Education is the bedrock of all societal development and Senator Shehu Sani is leaving an indelible footprints in this regard. Recently, his sponsored 20 candidates to school abroad while scheming for another batch. Text-books, books and other essential learning materials were distributed in many primary and secondary schools around the Senatorial District. Other projects executed by Senator Sani include but not limited to construction of drainages, culverts, purchasing houses for conversion as orphanage, distribution of transformers and many more.

This progressive, fearless and outspoken man is an asset to Kaduna Central, Kaduna State and Nigeria as a whole. May Allah protect and fortify him for the betterment of humanity and grant him all his heart desires as we head to 2019 general elections.
