Armed robbers have robbed Nasarawa State Ministry of Finance Budget and Planning the sum of N100 million in Lafia, the state capital.
A witness said that that the armed robbers trailed staff of the ministry from a first generation bank in Lafia, after they went to withdraw the cash to be used in paying casual workers.
According to him, when the staff were about to offload the currency in the office, the suspected gunmen shot sporadically into the air and escaped unchallenged.
It was observed that the ministry doesn’t engage security personnel in their activities.
The State Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Planning, Haruna Ogbole has confirmed the incident and said that investigations have commenced but didn’t disclosed the exact amount robbed the state.
A source in Nasarawa State Police command said that the Commissioner or the management of the Ministry didn’t report the robbery to the Police.
And that when the Police went to restore order and assess the situation, none of the staff of the Ministry briefed them.
