The Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Gideon Gwani in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), have distributed relief materials worth millions of naira to the victims of the suspected herdsmen attacks in Kirim and Zanga communities in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
In lawmaker told our Correspondent that the show of compassion to the victims of the attacks in Kirim and Zangan is predicated on humanitarian gesture to help victims rebuild their shattered lives.
He said, “I am here to sympathize with the victims of the attacks in Kirim and Zangan.” Gwani said, adding, “To help them rebuild their lives from the rubble of the conflagration and to also show them that they are not alone in this trying moment.
“As their representative, I was with them before the attacks and my presence here today has attested to the fact that I am still with them after the attacks both in spirit and in kind. There is no better way to show love to a people than when they are faced with life threatening challenges,”
While receiving the relief materials at the Atakar Model Primary School, the Paramount Ruler of Takad Chiefdom, Dr. Tobias Nkom Wada, said, bandits from Plateau State and other neighbouring communities connived and unleashed mayhem on the peace loving people of his chiefdom.
“My people are known for peace but, we have suffered series of attacks from bandits leading to the loss of lives and properties of unimaginable proportion,” he said.
Tobias thanked Gwani and NEMA for identifying with them in their moment of grief.
“We truly thank Hon. Gwani and NEMA for identifying with us in this terrible period of our existence. Words are enough to express to you people how we feel with this humanitarian assistance on our broken communities. This assistance will definitely go a long way in mitigating the suffering of victims who severely suffered collateral damages.”
The items distributed at the well-attended event includes: 167 bags of par boiled rice (25kg), 167 bags of beans (25kg), 167 bags of guinea corn (12.5kg), 332 pieces of foam mattresses, 332 pieces of blankets, 332 pieces of nylon mats, 332 pieces of blankets, 830 bundles of roofing sheets, 830 bags of cement, 332 packets of Zinc nails, 16kegs of vegetable oil and 8bags of salt.
Recalled, Kirim and Zangan communities came under attacks on Thursday 29th August, 2019 by suspected herdsmen.
The attackers shot sporadically into the air killing not fewer than seven(7) people, about nine (9) people sustained different degrees of injury and more than fourty eight(48) houses were set ablaze and reduced to rubble, two churches and a Pastorium were burnt, one health facility was destroyed and a police outpost was destroyed.
