President Buhari Visits Trouble Plateau State, Charges Community Leaders To Ensure Peaceful Coexistence

President Muhammadu Buhari visited Plateau state Tuesday evening to ascertain the extend of damage the renewed attacks and killings has caused citizens, however could not step to any of the scene.

The President held a close door meeting with affected community leaders and the governor, with his cabinet at government house, Rayfield, in Jos.

His Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo had paid a similar visit Monday evening, and left same night, the Vice President also address stakeholders in a similar manner.

President Buhari reiterated federal government commitment in bring an end to the killings in plateau state, Mr President also could not stay over in Jos, as his visit last for about three and a half hour.

But Senior special assistant to President Buhari, Alhaji Garba Shehu while addressing Journalists shortly after the close door meeting which lasted about two hours, told Journalists in a brief interview that President Buhari has charged traditional and community leaders to call their subjects to order and live in peace with one another.

Earlier in an address, Plateau state governor Simon Lalong appealed for calm, thanked the President for the visit.

“Your visit (President Buhari) is no doubt comforting, coming less than 24 hours after the visit of Mr. Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo GCON. This visit gives us the confidence to open up the grief in our hearts today.”

The Plateau state governor told President Buhari that the aggressors who attacked and killed in the renewed violence might be foreigners.

“We are concerned as a State that sophisticated weapons used in these attacks, from the evidences on ground and the narrations of victims are not those conventional to our environment for self defense but reflective of a terrorist invasion.”

Governor Lalong said the recent attacks was handiwork of evil people who do not wish the state well, noted with regret that the incident has cause humanitarian crisis.

“We have again been confronted with renewed attacks which have left us with increased man-made humanitarian crises as a result of the condemnable and reprehensible conducts of the haters of our peace and humanity.”
