Ten years after Plateau youth council was disbanded, the youth council has gotten new leadership for a three year tenure, led by Dr Fabong Yildam, among nine others.
The newly elected Plateau youth council executives were on Monday inaugurated at the Azi Nyako youth centre, Dadinkowa, Jos south local government area of Plateau state.
The Plateau youth council were ten years ago disbanded by a court of law due persistent violence and internal rivalry that led to the physical asults.
Governor Simon Lalong, at the swearing-in ceremony of the Plateau youth council, charged the youth to eschew violence and embrace peaceful coexistence.
Governor Lalong, pledged to work with the entire youth, irrespective of reginal, ethnic, political, religion and economic reason to develop Plateau state, Lalong said the restoration of the Plateau youth in active capacity was a fulfilments of one of his campaign promise.
Chairman of the youth council in his acceptance speech beg the governor of Plateau state Simon Lalong, to engage the youth in his governance, he lamented that plateau youth have been neglected.
“Entrepreneurship is lacking, and youth engagement is low. This of course has been a major challenge in the confidence building on the Plateau.”
Mr. Yildam frown at increasing substance abuse by Plateau youth, he pledge to eradicate the act. “Our brothers and sisters have been held captive by social vices such as drugs/substance abuse.”
Addeded that “the problem of unemployment is still very evidence as many of our young people roam our streets because they are not engage or empowered.”
The Plateau youth council chairman cautioned youth in the state against ethnicity “the issues of religion and and ethnicity are as old as the country itself. The polarization across political party or affiliations had made us worse.”
He however assured that the youth council will insist on good governance “Plateau youth council through supported by government will service as a shadow government contributing her suggestions on all aspects of good governance and would not be a pawn in the hands of any political class which would lead to the detriment of the youth of Plateau.” Yildam revealed.
Other members of the Plateau youth council inaugurated include, Mr. Othniel Gongden, as chairman, Hafsatu Yakubu, Secretary, Mangam Adamson, Treasurer, Fabian Parking, assistant Secretary, Rayyanu Saidu Financial secretary, Azi Peter, Director of social, Sam Datiri, Public Relations Officer, Gyang Mwadkon Feet, northern zone coordinator, Mr Othniel Gongden Central zone coordinator and Richard Nyelong as Southern zone coordinator.
