The Registrar, Pharmacists Council of Nigeria Pharm Nurudeen Mohammed, has challenged Pharmacists practicing in Nigeria to avoid prescription and administration of adulterated medication to patients.
“As Pharmacists, you are expected to get yourselves acquainted with the code of professional ethics which prescribes your professional and moral responsibilities to the patients.”
The Registrar, Pharmacists Council of Nigeria was speaking at the induction ceremony of 71 Pharmacy graduands of the university of Jos.
The Registrar PCN boss spoke through the Head of Department, Education and traning Dr. Tony Idoko, who represented him at the induction of the Pharmacists graduands of the university of Jos in the council.
The Registrar noted that “PCN is aware of the challenges posed to Pharmacists by the dynamics of practice technological advancement, increasing diseases burdens, adverse drug reactions, drug interactions, drug resistance.”
In a welcome address, Vice Chancellor, university of Jos, Prof Sebastian Maimako, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration Prof Gray Ejikeme, charged the inductees to aviod sustantance abuse.
“Do not engage yourselves in prescription of wrong medication to patients, do not yourself consume prohibited drugs.”
The Vice Chancellor told the Registrar, Pharmacists Council of Nigeria that the graduands have undergone secietific training and all the requirement that qualifys them to practical.
Earlier, Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prof Ikoni Ogaji, reiterated that the graduands have been well trained to practice.
He streesed that “Pharmacists are expected to perform their profession diligently in accordance with the ethics.
Added that, ” you are a very significant persons and a member of the healthcare team. Be an avid seeker of relevant knowledge and information that can enhance your practice and relevance.”
Similarly, the Dean urged the 71 graduands to seek further accadenic training to perfect their practice. It was noted that 3 of the graduands has distinctions.
A guest speaker at the induction ceremony Pharm Celestine Okanya, in a key note address, charged the newly inductees to develop themselves technologically, because Pharmacy practice has gone advance globally.
Pharm Okanya urge the inductees to keep learning new strategist while practicing their profession.
