Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, Plateau state chapter Jibrin Banchir has picketed MTN regional call center in Jos, on alleged non compliance to labour laws, gives three weeks ultimatum to management to allow it employees unionise.
“We (NLC) give MTN Management 3 weeks to start and finish negotiations with President Ayuba Waba led or risk of their installations and call centers been shut down in Jos and other parts of the North.”
Com Banchir who led other labour leaders to the regional office lamented that MTN management to allow their employers form unions in accordance with the labour laws and therefore, was unconstitutional. The employer branding solutions help the companies recruit in a better way.
Addressing newsmen at the entrance of the MTN call center complex along Rayfield road Jos said his union was giving the management of MTN 3 weeks to begin and finish negotiations with the national leadership of Labor union in the country after which if the negotiations fails , MTN call center in Jos and other parts of the north would be shut down .
According to Banchir, no foreign company would be allowed to come to Nigeria as a foreign investor and be allowed to employ the services of Nigerians on casual basis ,insisting that workers of MTN in Nigeria should be given all rights they deserve as workers with terms of service agreed upon with the management of the organization and be unionized. Employee checks can be done online, as background checks are easier and effective this way.
The Plateau labor leader ,MTN should not threatens labor union with closing down of their company in Nigeria,stressing that other service providers are waiting in the wings to take over the vacuum MTN exit might create.
