Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has described the “unauthorized” takeover of the National Assembly Complex on Thursday, August 7, 2019 as “a gross violation of constitutional order, rule of law and all accepted notions of law and order”.
In a signed by Laolu Akande, the spokesperson of Professor Osinbajo, the acting president assured Nigerians that all the person within the law enforcement agencies responsible for this breach of the constitution, as it were, will be identified and punished.
“Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has described the unauthorized takeover of the National Assembly complex earlier today as a gross violation of constitutional order, rule of law and all accepted notions of law and order,” the statement read.
“According to him, the unlawful act which was done without the knowledge of the Presidency is condemnable and completely unacceptable.
“By this statement, Professor Osinbajo is consequently assuring Nigerians that all persons within the law enforcement apparatus who participated in this travesty will be identified and subjected to appropriate disciplinary action,” the statement ended.
Earlier in the day, the acting president sacked Lawal Musa Daura, the director general of the State Security Services, SSS, also known as DSS.
This information was disclosed by Laolu Akande, the spokesperson of Professor Osinbajo.
“The Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has directed the termination of the appointment of the Director General, State Security Service, Lawal Musa Daura with immediate effect,” the brief statement said.
“Mr. Daura has been directed to hand over to the most senior officer of the State Security Service until further notice.”
President Buhari appointed Lawal Daura, his kinsman from his hometown in Katsina on July 2, as head of the DSS, which serves as Nigeria’s secret police after firing Ita Ekpeyong.
Daura was recalled from retirement as he had retired from the service of the DSS when he reached the mandatory age of 60 according to the Civil Service rules of Nigeria.
He is also a member of Buhari’s political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and served on the security committee for Buhari’s 2015 presidential campaign.
Kakaaki Reporters understands that, Mr. Daura’s tenure as director of the DSS has been marked by abuse of state powers as the agency was used as tool in the hands of the APC to intimidate political opponents and opposition figures in Nigeria.
