Kano Declares Tuesday, Public Holiday Over Maitama Sule’s Death


The governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has declared Tuesday as public holiday over the death of an elder statesman, Alh. Yusuf Maitama Sule.



The state government, in a statement by the commissioner of Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, confirmed that Yusuf Maitama Sule died at a hospital in Cairo, Egypt where he was receiving treatment for an illness.


The statement said the funeral prayer for the deceased will be conducted tomorrow Tuesday at the Emir’s Palace, Kofar Kudu, by 4:00pm.


“Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has declared tomorrow Tuesday a work – free day in the state to mourn the death of the elder statesman.


“May Allah grant his soul eternal peace and mercy? Amin,” the statement read.
