The present set of lawmakers of the Kaduna State House of Assembly are the worst in history.

Former Director-General Media and Publicity, Kaduna State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Maiyaki expressed this on Thursday while fielding questions from newsmen at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council as part of activities to mark the World Press Freedom Day.

Maiyaki argued that the lawmakers have been reduced to an extension of the executives as they have only been able to pass four bills sponsored by members in the last three years.

He said he is disappointed by the crop of lawmakers in the assembly in view of their approaches to lawmaking.

“This is an assembly that passed a bill within 34 minutes,” he said.

In terms of press freedom in the state, he ranked it low, judging by the report which informed that journalists were arrested under the present government of Kaduna State.

He however, cautioned journalists against unethical practices while filing their reports, advising them to ensure they do objective and balanced stories.
