Mrs. Comfort Amwe, the candidate of the peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Saturday’s rerun election in Sanga local government area has emerged winner with a slide margin.
Declaring the result in the wee hours of today, the Returning Officer, Dr Salihu Musa Kargi of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, said Mrs Comfort Amwe of the PDP polled 19,815 votes to defeat her closest rival, Mr. Haliru Gambo Dangana of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who scored 19,688 votes.
He commended the electorate for the way they conducted themselves peacefully before, during and after the elections.
While in Kagarko, the candidate of the APC and former Deputy Speaker, Nuhu Goro Shadalafiya was returned winner of the rerun election conducted under tide security.
Shadalafiya polled a total of 24,658 votes to defeat the incumbent candidate of the PDP, Mr Morondia Tanko who scored 20,206 votes as announced by the constituency’s returning officer, Dr. Haruna Aminu from the Ahmadu Bello University.
The court of Appeal had ordered for a rerun in 22 units of three wards in Kagarko constituency following a suit by Mr. Nuhu Shadalafiya of the APC who had challenged the victory of Mr . Morondia Tanko of the PDP in the 9th March election.
The elections witness voter apathy in the two constituencies of Sanga and Kagarko.
Meanwhile, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party has rejected the result of Kagarko local government as declared by INEC.
According to the party’s publicity secretary, Mr. Abraham Catoh, INEC refused to show up in one polling unit believed to be it stronghold.
“APC thugs also came and disrupted elections on two polling units were our candidate was leading, and INEC went ahead to Council the result of those polling units. We will challenge that,” he said.
