The Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) in Plateau State have acquired upgraded Tissue and Renal Equipments capable of undergoing Kidney transplant on patients.
JUTH Chief Medical Director (CMD) Dr. Pokop Buptwatda, made the disclosure on Friday, while receiving the equipments; represented by Dr Ishaya Pam, former CMD of the hospital, Dr Buptwatda informed that the equipments were facilitated through the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos Prof Tanko Ishaya.
“The urology and kidney Center, was made possible through the efforts of the vice Chancellor University of Jos, Prof Tanko Ishaya, who obtained a grant of 1 billion naira and procured the equipments.”
JUTH Chief Medical Director revealed that the said equipments were already used recently in carrying out successful kidney stones surgery on two patients. Seven others are being waited to be treated of same health challenge.
Performing the official handing over of the equipments to management of JUTH, Vice Chancellor, University of Jos Prof Tanko Ishaya, revealed that the medical equipments were procured through a one billion naira grant offered the institution by TETfund.
The Vice Chancellor said the gusture shall safe Nigerians millions of dollars do spent oversea on kidney related illnesses.
Prof Tanko cautioned those who shall use the equipments to handle them with care; the Vice Chancellor charged JUTH management to safeguard the equipments from theft.
Meanwhile, the CMD had said should the equipments are properly put to use, JUTH shall soon become a referral kidney plant center in Nigeria “we should go beyond just kidney, neurology and kidney transplant, we should move towards having a center for transplant medicine here(JUTH).”
“This center is going to bring a lot of Succour to people, because over a thousand persons are suffering from kidney disease and many more, for various other diseases.”The CMD noted
Already, medical personnel from the
Department of Medical Microbiology, JUTH, are currently undergoing thorough training on how to effectively and efficiently use the equipments.
A trainee on the equipments, Dr Jatua Ezra who is the HOD Beamer-biological, affirmed that all the equipments procured were those they have researched about.
Dr Ezra satisfied that the equipments are of International standard and modem.
On his part, the contractor who procured the equipments, Alhaji Umar Ali, whose company is “Belloh System Company Limited” procured the medical equipments, told Journalists in an interview that his company carried out the contract within specifications and delivered timely.
It was gathered that the
Typing Tissue Laboratory equipped by the University of Jos, at JUTH through TETfund is the first of it kind in the history of Nigeria as a country.
