No fewer than 30 persons have been killed by suspected bandits in Wurwanna village, Gandi district of Rabah local government area of Sokoto State.
The bandits, numbering over 100 were said to have attacked the village at about 1:30pm shooting at sight every living thing within their reach.
A survivor, Aminu, who escaped by sheer grace, said the attackers rode on motorcycles and were armed to the teeth.
He added that the gunmen were shooting sporadically and bragged of further deadly attacks on other villages within the district.
He confirmed that he counted 20 corpses which were recovered from the bush, adding that the number of deaths could be more than 30.
“You see, I cannot tell you the actual number of those killed now. We are still in a panic mood. The bandits shot so many people. Honestly, over 30 people must have been killed. Many more sustained gunshots injuries. Those killed could be more as some of the dead bodies can only be recovered with time,” he said.
The police spokesperson in the state, DSP Cordelia Nwawe confirmed the attack, saying the police were on top of the situation.
Cordelia further appealed for cooperation even as she urged people of the state to go about their normal businesses. ,adding that the state is safe.
The Commsioner of Police is on top of the situation. Investigation is ongoing into the matter and he will brief the press accordingly as soon as possible” said DSP Cordelia.
This Newspaper gathered that the governor of the State, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has suspended his ongoing campaign tour in the State in honour of the victims of the attacked just as he vowed to deal with the perpetrators.
