The Plateau State Police Command said unknown gunmen, Tuesday night attacked and killed 8 persons in two villages (Abonong and Zayit) in Barkinladi local government area of Plateau state, three others injured.
“As a result of the attack, Eight (8) persons lost their lives, three (3) people were injured.”
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command DSP Terna Tyopev, made the revelation through a press release to Journalists in Jos, Wednesday night.
The release said the assailants burnt down 95 houses rustled three hundred and ten cows; “ninety five (95) houses were burnt down and three hundred and ten (310) Cattle were stolen.” Police revealed.
The current Barkinladi attack is coming less than 12 hours when the a peace summit of the 19 northern state and Abuja converge in Jos on a two day summit to proffer solution to the incessant civil unrest bedeviling the region; the summit was organized by Christian Association of Nigeria CAN northern zone.
The release of the police also stated that property yet to be estimated by the police was vandalized and looted by the attackers. “Property and food stuff were looted and destroyed.”
Police in Jos said no arrest has been made, though the suspects were sighted at a distance; “while the Police were approaching the areas, the attackers sighted them from a far and ran away from the scene of crime.”
Though it said investigations into the incident has commenced with the view of arresting the suspects.
“Investigation is ongoing to track and arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act to face the consequences of their actions,” he said.
