Facility of Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN Adiabo sub-station Calabar which helps in boosting electricity supply to residents of Calabar, the Cross River State capital was on Saturday gutted by fire while experts of the company were trying to repair a faulty transformer.
The facility worth millions of naira is about a kilometer to The Tinapa business and leisure resort suffered damage due to large fire which breakout in the facility throwing the entire city of Calabar into blackout.
Our reporter in Calabar learnt that the fire started when a 330/132 KVA sub-station ignited fire while experts at the power station were carrying out repairs.
As of the time of filing in this report nobody is able to tell the actual cause of the fire that has thrown a large part of the city into darkness.
According to eye witness who claimed to resides along the Tinapa axis Mrs. Felicia Umoh stressed that the fire outbreak at the TCN facility began with an explosion and later lead to a wild fire that burnt large portion of the station.
Reacting to the incident Regional Manager of PHEDC Mr. Collins Igwe, stated that he is surprised at the incident but cannot really say much until he visits the sub-station to do assessment on the extent of the of damage.
“I have heard about the fire outbreak. It is shocking. Nobody is sure about the cause.
“I am on my way to assess the extent of damage. We will look at how soon we can restore power to the parts of town affected.”Igwe stated.
