Thousands of residents of unguwar ‘yan kilishi at Rigasa in Igabi local government area of Kaduna metropolis are being threaten by growing gully erosion.
Investigations by the team of Kakaaki Reporters show that dreaded erosion has already dislocated hundreds of residents of the community.
The team observed that many houses have since Collapsed, forcing residents to migrate to another location as a result of gully erosion.
Community who spoke to our team, appealed to Kaduna, the federal government and all humanitarian organizations to come to their aid, to enable them tackle the situation before it become worse.
One of the residence, Mallam Sani Musa said “every year, gully erosion destroy our houses, yet no any government intervention.”
He, however appealed to Kaduna state government to help them search for ecological fund, so as to halt the situation from escalating.”
Another resident, Sagir Shu’aibu also said, “there is need for quick intervention by state government, in other to halt the situation” while stressing the need for Kaduna state ministry of environment to show commitment in tackling all environmental challenges disturbing communities.
Meanwhile the director African Climate reporter Dr piman Hoffman has said, there is need for state government to quickly respond to the situation in the area.
Hoffman said, “During our visit, we saw how the gully erosion causes serious damages to the area and has threatened the survival of the people.”
