The embattled All Progressive Congress aspirant for Pengana state house of assembly constituency Hon Musa Gondina has said he has never renege on any agreement made between him and Buji district over elections.
Hon Gondina made his position public in a chat with Journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Plateau council press centre in Jos Wednesday evening, while reacting to a media report by Plateau state APC party chairman Hon Latep Dabang against his person, that he, Gondina lost 2015 re-election because he could not honor earlier agreement not to seek second tenure of office.
It will be recalled that the APC chairman had in an interview with Journalists at his residents recently, revealed why Gondina lost during the during the 2015 and subsequently 2018 party primaries elections.
According to Hon Dabang, Gondina had signed an agreement with Buji district not to contest again should Buji elections of Pengana state constituency allow him win elections in 2011 Pengana state assembly constituency election, but Gondina later violated the agreement.
Reacting to the said statement Hon Dabang, Gondina said the APC chairman lied against his person, because Buji district and it people rather violated the agreement and contested the 2011 election against him, but were unlucky and lost to himself.
Gondina named the rivals from Buji district during the 2011 election to include, Laya Andrew Aminu of APGA, who scored 38 votes, Yakubu Yakson of Labour Party LP got 285 votes and Henry Nengel of CPC had 10 votes; while he Hon Gondina defected the said persons alongside two others with a total of 17,892 votes to win 2011 Pengana state assembly constituency seat in the Plateau state assembly.
According Gondina, the earlier agreement between him and the Buji district was that no one from the said district should contest the 2011 election against him, but the persons mentioned above who hail from Buji district rivalled him at the polls.
He further stated that a counter agreement was written by him to dispute the earlier document the APC chairman Latep Dabang had referred to.
A copy of the counter agreement dated 6th day of March 2015 written by Gondina’s Lawyers states that the earlier agreement no longer stands, and Hon Gondina Musa has the right to seek re-election.
Part of the agreement reads “in the light of above sir, we wish state that the agreement between you and our client was breached by the wanton resurrection of the trio that contested with our client. Any attempt to use the said agreement against the candidature of our client will be regarded as mischievous and a whimsical attempt aimed at making caricature of reality which will be resisted vehemently.”
It stressed further that “we therefore wish to categorically state that when some desperate politicians use the agreement and published scurrilous and fabricated charges of sleaze against our clients and jeopardize his quest for political excellence in a civilized world is definitely a frustrating count down.”
Hon Gondina who recently petitioned INEC to issue him certificate of return as the winner of Pengana constituency following the sudden death of an elected legislature Ezekiel Afon in the just concluded state assembly elections, also copies national Secretariat of APC; the petition has degenerated controversy in the APC in Plateau state.
Meanwhile, Hon Dabang had presented a two page letter of agreement Gondina allegedly earlier wrote through his Lawyer “Uncle Jesse ad co, Barrister and solicitors, No 5 Jekada Fari” and signed hy his person (Gondina Musa Sambo) and his constituents to represent them in a single term of four years.
Part of the agreement reads “that I Gondina Musa Sambo hereby make this promise that if given the support of Buji people and I am elected, I will only spend 1 (one) term of 4 (four) years as Plateau state house of assembly i.e. from 2011-2015, thus not contesting for re-election.” The document stated.
Gondina in the chat prayed that INEC issue him certificate of return since his rival in the APC party primaries Ezekiel Afon who subsequently won the general elections died before taking oath of office.
It is on record that Gondina was the first runner off in the 2018 APC party primaries with 83 votes, while late Ezekiel Afon got the party ticket with 106 votes during the said primaries.
