The Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, has challenged women in the state to live responsible lives, and be economical in spending family resources.
He specifically told Women “Do not fight for equality, accept your role as women and as a wife, you will become a respected mother in the society.”
Governor Lalong gave the challenge to the women, Thursday in Jos, while marking international day of Women, being celebrated globally every 8th of March, since 1911.
The governor used the event and empowered 104 vulnerable women across the 17 local government areas of the state, with a token to enable beneficiaries established petty businesses.
“Do not consider the token given to you as a gift for fashion and cosmetics, use the sum and start a trade,” he said.
Represented by the commissioner for higher education, Mrs Elizabeth Wakmuk, governor Lalong tasked Plateau women to play motherly role in their respective homes.
“Respect your husbands, your children and community will respect you as a mothers.”
Speaking on equality of women before their male counterparts, the governor said “women must not asked for respect, you must earn it. Be a good wife, your husband will always stand by you.”
Always be a servant, you will be uplifted by your husband.”
