The Peoples Democratic Party (PD) in Plateau state have said it is been short changed of it duly won elections by the state Residence Electoral Commission Alhaji. Husseini Halilu Pai, for failing to announce results four days after national assembly polls.
State chairman of the PDP Mr. Damishi Sango stated this at the party secretariat in Jos, on Wednesday, during a press conference, held by the party to register it grievance over inability of INEC in the state to announced results of national assembly elections for Plateau state.
Mr. Sango, a former Minister of Sport said the commission was inviting anarchy in the state, “we are therefore alerting the nation and the world to hold the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Husseini Halilu Pai responsible for any breakdown of law and order.”
Kakaaki Reporters in Jos, learnt that there was a pandemonium at the Jos north local government INEC collation centre early hours of Wednesday, following absence of Plateau REC, and subsequent postponement of the announcements the northern senatorial elections and that of Jos north/Bassa federal constituency elections.
The PDP chairman in Plateau state revealed further that “it is glaring to everyone that the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Alhaji. Husseini Halilu Pai had compromised his position as an umpire. Consequently, he has set the whole of Plateau on tension which is a recipe for monumental crisis.”
The PDP party chieftain told Journalists during the press briefing that non of the senatorial election results have been announced.
“Four days after the conduct of the elections, INEC is yet to turn in the final results and declare the winners.”
He stressed that “at the Northern Zone, we received reports from INEC officers on ground and our agents that PDP had roundly won the election. INEC then picked Tudun Wada-Kabong ward, a stronghold of the PDP in Jos North LGA and has withheld the results of all the 65 units with a total voter population of about 92 thousand people.”
“In the Southern Zone, INEC declared the election inconclusive after cancelling the results of some units in Qua’an Pan and Wase local government areas.”
Mr. Sango expressed fears that there might be voter apathy during the forthcomig March 9th governorship elections.
“There was also an enthusiastic turn out of the people to vote despite the earlier inexcusable postponement by INEC which had brought untold anguish and disappointment on the electorate. Plateau people clearly spoke their minds by vesting their trust in PDP through overwhelmingly voting for the party.”
