Zamfara State Governor, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle has assured that despite the economic lull caused by the Corona Virus pandemic across the world, he would not cut or reduce salary of civil servants in the state.
Matawalle gave the assurance on Friday when he hosted state Labour leaders to break the Ramadan fast at his residence in Gusau the state capital.
The governor said though current situation in the state and the country calls for belt tightening measures, his administration will look for other ways rather than cut or reduce salary of workers as they are critical to the development of the state.
“As you all can see, there is currently shortfalls in the revenue of the country and the states due to corona virus pandemic in the world but despite that I will not cut or reduce your salary as being done in other places,” he said.
He promised the continued payment of salaries and wages as at when due including promotions and leave grants.
Matawalle said to reduce the hardship being experienced in the state as a result of the Covid-19, he has approved has approved N470 Million loan subsidy on food to the civil servants.
“I have directed for the supply of rice that will be sold to the State civil servants at 50 percent discount,” he said.
Earlier in his address the State NLC Chairman, Comrade, Bashir Mohammed Mafara thanked Matawalle for assuring them that workers salary would not be cut and also for granting the subsidy approval to the State civil servants.
The breaking of Ramadan Fast at the governor’s residence was part of low keyed May Day celebration in the state.
