Following the dissolution of the transition council chairmen of Plateau state by governor Simon Lalong, the interim state chairman of Action Democratic Party (ADP) Nanyah Daman, has challenged the governor to immediately conduct local government elections to avoid prolong vacuum at that level of governance.
“As a matter of urgency we advise the Governor of Plateau State Bar Simon Bako Lalong to stop toying with the future and intelligence of the citizens of Plateau state. He should immediately issue a date for the conduct of Local Government Council elections via the state electoral commission “Plateau State independent Electoral Commission PLASIEC.”
ADP is one of the five newly registered political party; the Plateau state chairman of the party chief Nanyah Daman in an interview with Journalists in Jos, on Sunday alleged that the All Progressive Congress APC led government in the state were not ready to conduct local government elections till the end of four year tenure of the ongoing administration.
Chief Daman also alleged that APC administration have deliberately refused to conduct council elections since asumption of office two years ago, because APC have lost control of grassroots politics.
“APC government and Governor Lalong have been rejected by the people as exemplified in the pre-arranged APC caucus meeting nicknamed, “town hall meetings” recently held across the 17 Local Governments areas of Plateau State, though the gathering was not a success, because government officials were chased away with stones by citizens.” The ADP chairman alleges.
It will be recalled that the Plateau state governor through his director of press and public affairs Emmauel Nanle, Thursday morning announced immediate desolation of the 17 transition chairmen.
“The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong has approved the dissolution of the existing Local Government Transition Committees with effect from Thursday the 29th of June, 2017.”
It added that “the Chairmen and Management Committee Members are to immediately hand over the running of affairs of the Local Government Councils to the Directors of Personnel Management pending further actions in line with the provision of law.”
It was learnt that all the 17 council chairmen have comply with the governor’s directives and hand over to directors of personnel as directed by the governor.
