Three notable ethnic associations of the Berom speaking people in Plateau state, Berom Educational and Cultural Organization (BECO) Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) and Berom Women Developmet Association (BEWDA) has said the “coalition of Plateau patriots” led by a former SSG Slyvanus Lot, who addressed a press conference Tuesday in Jos is a fake association, and was sponsored to set Berom against other ethnic nationals in the state.
“This coalition is unknown and their motivation highly suspicious because many of them lack any qualification to be recognized as patriots in Plateau state.”
“We dare to warn Sylvanus Lot and his cohorts that such a satanic agenda shall not succeed because the Berom are incontrovertibly peace loving and highly accommodative.”
It added that “these self appointed Plateau patriots who are yet to visit or contribute to the welfare of the IDPs to drum up wild and unsubstantiated allegations against the Berom is simply to betray the sinister motive of their press conference which appears to have been sponsored to pitch the Berom against other ethnic groups in Plateau state.” It stressed.
The three cultural associations in press release issued Wednesday in Jos, jointly signed by it leaders
(BECO) President Davou Choji Davou (BYM) President Choji Dalyop Chuwang and (BEWDA) general secretary Florence Jambol, dismissed claims by the coalition of Plateau patriots, which had said the Berom people are the architects of the renewed violence in the state, particularly in Berom dominated council areas of Barkinladi, Riyom and Jos south.
The Berom associations therefore demands apologises from the said coalition of Plateau patriots “the Berom nation vehemently rejects the allegations and insinuations contained in the text of the S.D. Lot led press conference of coalition of Plateau patriots and therefore, demands an unreserved apology from the initiators, sponsors and presenters of that ill motivated conference.”
It also refuted the accusations against it kinsmen that it masters minded that attack on governor Simon Lalong at an IDP camp recently; the cultural association revealed that 230 people were killed in the recent unrest.
“More than 230 innocent lives were butchered and roasted like chicken in their homes.”
It reiterated it resolve to defending the integrity of it people “we shall live to resist surrogates and sycophants determined to achieve selfish and partisan interest at the expense of our people.” The press text stated.
The group said there are criminal activities ongoing at the Angludi IDP camp, were the governor was stoned.
“The gate and store of the IDP camp were equally broken and damaged with the intention of looting relief materials.”
