Following continued apprehension within Jos metropolis, most parents have evacuated their children schooling at the university of Jos on Monday.
Busses accompanied by security operatives were seen alighting students in some parts of Jos, considered to the safe haven.
Officials of the students union government have reported death of one student, with another injured.
“Sequel to the unfortunate unrest within the Jos metropolis, I wish to state with a heavy heart that to the best of my knowledge one Jossite has been confirmed dead and one injured. Two other unidentified persons were also injured and are receiving treatment.” SUG officials confirmed.
A press statement by the chief of staff to the SUG President university of Jos Mr. Damak Joseph said the situation was under control, he however call for calm.
According to Mr Demak, the SUG President Mr Pantu Fwangshak expressed disappointment with the ugly development.
“Meaningful development can only take place in an atmosphere of peace, let’s live in peace with one another.”
The relative peace of Jos, the Plateau state capital has once again been disrupted following outbreak of violence at the city centre, leading to loss of lives and property.
It was learnt that suspected angry youth set ablaze a security vehicle along Rukuba road, and the police out post at Gadabiu area.
The police out post built and donated by a serving house of representative member, representing Bassa/Jos north federal constituency was touched during the unrest, burning documents at the police station last Friday.
Similarly, a Christian worship centre along Dutse Ukwu was also said to have badly affected during the renewed violence Monday morning, with several residential houses and business places also touched.
Plateau state government had taken security measures to curtail loss of lives and property, imposed curfew, a statement by the commissioner for information and communication Hon Yakubu Dati, appealed for calm.
Though the curfew has been relaxed, as stated by the commissioner for information Yakubu Dati.
“Plateau Government Relax Curfew. The dusk to dawn curfew imposed by the Plateau State Government has been relaxed from 10pm to 6am.”
It will be recalled that the dusk to dawn curfew was imposed on Jos North and Jos South local government areas following disturbances within Jos and its environs which led to loss of lives.
Meanwhile, security chiefs in Plateau state had also implore security measures in ensuring return of peace, and restricted movement in some part of Jos metropolis Sunday evening.
The commissioner of Police Plateau state police command CP, Undie Udie ordered residents in Dutse Ukwu, Tina Junction, Rikkos, Angwan Rukuba, University of Jos student hostel to stay indoors.
Our reporter gathered that many students of the university of Jos and the school of Forestry along Bauchi road as well as commuters through Jos Bauchi, Gombe route were trapped in Jos, following the stay indoor order by police.
The renewed violence has created tension in the minds of citizens living in Jos, religious leaders community and opinion leaders have been tasked to prevail on youth to eschewed violence and live in peace.
