President Muhamnadu Buhari, has challenged State Governors in Nigeria to tackle insecurity and fight corruption within their jurisdictions.
President Buhari gave the charge through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapher, at the meeting of APC Governors Forum also known as “Progressive Governors Forum”
President Buhari assured the Nigerian governors, that his administration will run an all inclusive government, in term of distribution of resources meant for States, irrespective of Political party differences.
Similarly, the State Governors at the meeting synerged to confront insecurity and banditry headlong.
Host governor, and the governor of Plateau Staye, Barr. Simon Lalong, who is also chairman, Northern States Governor’s Forum made the disclosure in a welcome address at the forum.
“We therefore need to come up with partical and effective ways on how we can tackle insecurity manifest in insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, farmer-header clashes, enthnoreligious cries and other violent conflicts.”
Governor Lalong stressed that governors must work inline with the federal government initiatives.
“We must at this meeting resolve how best to work with the federal government,” he said.
Chairman of the Progressive governors forum, and governor of Kebbi State, Sen. Abubakar Bagudu, in a speeche revealed that the federal government spent the sum of 23 billion Naira across the 36 states to tackle flood disaster this year, 2019.
He said another 8 billion naira was spent in managing insecurities.
Governor Bagudu said the Progressive governors forum meeting has assisted most governors to govern their respective states with new policies and strategies.
Eight governors, three deputy governors and three ministers attended the Progressive governors forum parley.
A Communiqué is expected at the end of the two day ongoing meeting of the governors.
