Breaking News: Gunmen Shot Dead Plateau Assembly Speaker’s Driver, Injured 2 Others

Plateau state command of the Nigerian police have reported the death of two persons, including driver of the Speaker, Plateau state House of Assembly Azi Magaji, who were shot dead Saturday night by yet to be identified gunmen.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Nigerian police, Plateau state command DSP Terna Tyopev, on Sunday, the incident occur at about 9:00pm Saturday night, near the the gate of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).

“Yesterday (Saturday) 25/08/2018 at about 2100hrs (9:00pm) a distress call was received to the effect that there were sporadic gun shots at Zarazong area of Jos which houses Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) Gate 4. Immediately the information was received, the Police mobilised to the area.”

“On arrival Azi Magaji the driver to the Speaker Plateau State House of Assembly and Edward Ankpa Titus a security guard with JUTH were found motionless. They were rushed to JUTH immediately but were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.” The police statement explained.

The other two survivors of the incident are said to be security staff of JUTH whom police said were badly injured with gun shots wounds, are been treated at the Jos University Teaching Hospital JUTH.

Investigations revealed that the decease driver was on errant of the the speaker who was newly elected after the impeachment of the former speaker Peter Azi, on lack of no confidence by majority of the the legislators.

“While Kopdi Monday and Nenman Popdak who were on duty at JUTH Gate 4 were also found with gun shot injuries and were rushed to JUTH for treatment. DSP Tyopev stated in the press release.

Though no arrest have been made, but police said investigations into the incident has commenced with the view of tracing the perpetrators.

“Investigation into the case is on to track and arrest the perpetrators to face Justice. The piece stressed.
