A group, “Berom Patriots” has distance Berom speaking people from the attack on the convoy of the governor of Plateau state Simon Lalong, which occurred Saturday afternoon at an IDP camp.
“Though the camp is in Berom Land it should not be misconstrued as the attack was carried out by Berom people.” The group stated
A press text jointly signed by it President Dachollom Badung and secretary of the group Gyang David on Sunday, the group condemned the attack, said it was uncalled for, insisted that it was the handiwork of mischief makers to tarnish the image of the Berom people.
“While we condemn the attack on our peace loving Governor’s convey, we make bold to say that some miscreants with ulterior motive might have taken advantage of the vulnerability of the IDPs to carry out their heinous activities.”
The press release recall with dismay that some hoodlums had at the wake of the recent violence infiltrated into a peaceful religious group and invade government house premises destroyed property worth millions of Naira.
“We recalled that some disgruntled elements recently under the false cover of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Plateau Northern Zone criminally attacked government house Jos in the name of protest.”
It will be recalled that governor Simon Lalong’s convoy was attack near the IDP camp at Geoscience hall at Anguludi, in Jos south local government, a Berom owned and dominated council area, shortly after the governor visited the displaced person’s camp.
Rumors are been spread that the attacks were master mind by Berom speaking people, though a statement by the Plateau state government, through the commissioner for information Yakubu Dati in an earlier press release Saturday night condemning the attack could not finger any ethnic group to be responsible for the attack on the governor’s convoy.
The Berom Patriots describe governor Lalong as a peace loving governor to all citizenry, and had on behalf of government expressed deep concerns to the plight and welfare of the victims of Barkinladi attacks.
“Berom Patriots thank Plateau state Governor Simon Lalong for his prompt response to the killings and his resolve before President Muhammadu Buhari that no land will be ceded to those who attack and lay claim to the land of their victims.”
It added that “Governor Lalong’s directive for the distribution of relief materials to victims in IDP camps has gone a long way in providing relief for victims.”
It expressed it commitiment in contributing it quota in assisting the governor achieve his desires as governor of Plateau state.
“We implore you not to relent in your effort in getting justice for Plateau people affected by conflict.
“Your Excellency has demonstrated a father figure and we stand by you in your effort to develop Plateau state.” The group stressed.
