Attacks, killings and kidnapping still exist in Plateau state-Youth leader Alleges

President Berom youth Moulders Association, Choji Chuwang, a youth native association has said despite the relative peace been enjoy in the state, there are still skirmishes of attacks of persons in isolated places leading to deaths.

Berom speaking people are the largest ethnic group in northern Plateau state, located in about four local government areas, out of the 17 council areas, from 52 gazetted tribes of the state.

Mr. Chuwang made the pronouncement in a press release in Jos, Plateau state, yesterday, (Monday) and was singed by it national publicity secretary Jatau Gyang.

Mr. Chuwang revealed that the most recent attack occur on 5th of April, he also alleged that suspected Fulani herdsmen, attacked a farmer and also destroyed his cash crops.

“On 5/4/17 at about 7:02 PM, herdsmen grazed on farms crops belonging to Mr. Emmanuel Gankis of Jol community.”

The Berom youth leader named some persons, locations and how his peaceful communities have been suffering humiliations from suspected herdsmen attackers.

“On 26/1/2017, Islamic fanatics attacked & injured Mrs Rifkatu Emmanuel Pam of Jol community, Riyom LGA.

– On 28/1/2017 at about 8:23 AM in Jol, herdsmen and/or suspected terrorists attempted kidnapping Mr. Dachung Maichibi, wife and son who narrowly escaped.

– On 30/1/2017 at Mere hamlet of Rahoss community, Riyom LGA, herdsmen attacked & fatally injured Mrs Victoria Monday after a futile attempt to rape the victim while the other woman narrowly escaped.

– On 17/3/2017 in Jol,Fulani stoned Secondary School students & injured Nehemiah David(14yrs). OPSH intercepted Cows of the attackers. At about 9:00 PM shortly after the Cows’ owner by name Salle angrily left the community, there were sporadic gunshots into homes of the natives. This left the natives panicking.

– On 4/4/2017, Mr. Davou Joro Mangai of Werreng Rim was attacked and fatally injured by suspected terrorists and/or Fulani herdsmen who mischievously cut down Cactus used as fence to indigenous houses and provocatively grazed into the community. Two of the attackers were apprehended and handed over to the Police Division of Riyom.”

Another form of criminality according to the Berom youth been perpetrated on his people was invention of mining sites, a lucrative business currently existing in Berom land have been hijacked by suspected territories.

“Invasion of a mining site situates at Hei-Sho of Rot-Chun (Rafin Acha) in Jol community, which had suffered the brunt of terrorism in the recent past. It’s similarly gathered that the islamists have invaded a vast land richly endowed with Tin and claimed it as a “conquered territory”.

He however appreciated Plateau state governor Simon Lalong for the return of relative peace in the state.

“We have all had reasons to  celebrate return of peace on the Plateau sequel to the extreme depletion in frequencies of Fulani attacks on Plateau native which was intense in Berom climes, this success is attributed to relentless efforts of the Executive Governor of Plateau State Rite Hon.Barr. Simon Bako Lalong.”

It will be recalled that citizens of Plateau state had suffered several attacks by it citizens for the past ten years, which resulted to destruction of property and killing of people in dozens.
