Executive Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, on Friday early morning visited the Karu Community market gutted by fire yesterday night.
According to his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Kingsley Madaki, in a statement, said, the Council Boss who visited the market along side the Speaker of AMAC, Hon. Mathew Yari, The PDP AMAC Chairman, Chief Godibeg Egbe, Karu Ward Councilor Hon. Useni Dogo and other stakeholders, promised a government relief package for the victims of the fire incident to enable them to bounce back.
Maikalangu disclosed that he will direct Council’s Emergency Management immediately to visit the burnt market for enumeration.
The Chairman also, commiserated with the community over the fire incident.
He said the government will offer some support to the victims within its resources.
Maikalangu, meanwhile, thank the Almighty God that no life was lost and said he was also proud of the swift response of the State Fire Service to bring the inferno under control, and the security agencies for the rapid response, adding that the Council’s Emergency Management will also visit the area to ascertain the level of damage.
The inferno was said to have occurred at yesterday night, destroying many shops and properties worth millions of naira.
“It was a great loss of property and livelihood, though we thank God that no life was lost to the inferno. We were able to respond quickly. Officials of the FCT Fire Service were here on time to control it, though we regret what had been destroyed before they came,” the the Chairman added.
Maikalangu, who conducted round the some shops that were razed, appreciated the support of everyone who fought for the swift response to the unfortunate incident.
