The Minister of Agriculture and food security Sen Abubakar Kyari, has said President Bola Tinubu, banned Importation of fertilizer into Nigeria, as a means to encourage local production.
“I am aware that there is a subsisting ban on importation of fertilizers in to this country which is a deliberate policy aimed at stimulating local production of fertilizers through establishment of local NPK Blending Plants to supply the much needed NPK fertilizers to our farmers.”
The agriculture minister made the revelation at Barkinladi local government area of Plateau State, where (Plateau Duncan Fertilizer Company) was officially Commissioned by the governor of Plateau State Barr Caleb Mutfwang.
Represented by the Director, Farm Inputs Support Services, Alhaji Ababa Waziri Abba, the minister said the gesture was to encourage local production of farm input in the country; geared towards tackling food security.
The Minister congratulated the Dr Godfrey Bawa, who is the Chief Executive Officer of fertilizer blinding company for establishing the factory.
He however demanded that quality should be the ensured in the production. He revealed that Ministry of Agriculture shall occasionally monitor and be supervising it activities as a means of maintaining quality assurance.
It was learnt that The Plateau Duncan Fertilizer Company has the capacity of blending 120merict tones per hour.
That it also has technology to produce
traditional NPK formulations of the NPK 20, 10, 10 ;15, 15, 15 as well as customized formulae, calibrated enriched.
Commissioning the fertilizer company, after inspecting it facilities, governor of Plateau State Barr Caleb Mutfwang, who spoke through the Commissioner of Agriculture Samson Bugama, commended efforts of the owner for the foresight.
Governor Mutfwang said government will create an enabling environment to enable the company thrive.
Similarly, the traditional ruler at whose domain the factory is sited, the Gwom Rai of Heipang, Da Paul Taddy, also assured management of the company and the general public of security.
The traditional ruler however requested that his subjects be given maximum opportunity of employment to work there. The royal father also sought for electricity to be provided to the immediate host community where the plant is located.
Earlier in his welcome address, Chief Executive Officer CEO Plateau Duncan Fertilizer Company, Dr Godfrey Bawa, in an address said the gusture was to compliment the policies of government in ensuring sufficient food crop in the country and to stem hunger.
Dr Bawa thanked and appreciated Plateau State government and the host community for the hospitality the company have enjoyed so far.
Also, the Immediate past governor of Imo State, Sen Rochas Okorocha, who was Chairman of the occasion, solicited the cooperation of the host community to secure the company.
Dignitaries present include Ex Minister of Women affairs, Mrs Pauline Tallen, The Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba among others.
