The special taskforce in charge of internal security in Plateau state and part of southern Kaduna State, known as “Operation Safe Heaven” (OPSH) has confirmed the killing of two persons by unknown gunmen Sunday evening in Bassa local government area of northern Plateau state.
“Unknown gunmen shot and killed 2 locals,” he said.
Media officer of the special taskforce on Jos crisis, Major Adam Umar, made the disclosure in a one page, three points press release on Tuesday, and sent to Journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) Plateau state council Jos.
According to the press text, the killing of the two persons by unknown gunmen might have resulted from the killing of a cow which was grazing on a farmland.
“On the 2nd of September 2018, OPSH personnel received a report at about 7:45pm that some unknown gunmen shot and kill 1 cow while the herd of cattle was grazing on a farmland around Kpachidu village in Bassa local government area.”
The press statement by the special taskforce noted that the killing of the two persons could be a reprisal attack, following shooting to death of the cow killed at Kpachidu village of Bassa local government area.
“In what seems like a reprisal attack unknown gunmen shot and killed two same day at about 11:30pm.” Major Umar’s statement stated.
Also, the press text by Major Adam Umar said the taskforce in the state could not arrest any of the attackers.
“Troop were mobilized to the scene to investigate the incident but the attackers took advantage of the difficult terrain which provided them the cover to escape,” he said.
