Amid CBN covid-19 wildfire, legislators from various constituencies across the Nigerian political space lobbied for Covid-19 intervention grant for their people. While Amos Gwamna Magaji (AGM), member, representing Zango Kataf/Jaba federal constituency of Kaduna State in a political move allegedly lobbied for Covid-19 loan for PDP Excos/delegates in his Constituency.
Last week, beneficiaries of the loan have started receiving phone calls from the lending institution for repayment. Before these distressed calls, one of the recipients spoke on the ground of anonymity that AGM promised to offset the loans “only” and “on the condition that,” if he wins his re-election. He is now using the loan as a bargaining chip for delegates vote, akin to systematic vote buying.
If he is very sincere about genuine assistance to district of poor people and if the loan was not given as a political pawn to hoodwink delegates into voting him the second term, he should repay the loans “now” on their behalf before the PDP primaries.
I can’t look the other way when politicians are playing pranks on local Peoples’ sensibility. Now, what will happen to these people if he doesn’t win his primaries? As a very educated person why would AGM encouraged local people to collect loan when he knows the multitude of implications tie to it can send some of them to early grave? We must all rise and condemn this act.
