By Ibraheem Hamza Muhammad:

An elder statesman has called on the federal government to immediately scrap the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The immediate past chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF ), Alhaji Musa Liman Kwande said in Lafia that, “the board has been subjecting young and gifted Nigerians and their parents with exorbitant, exthorting and cumbersome process.

“It is worrisome how a government examination body that is supposed to facilitate, guide and ensure an educated youth in simple rocess, but has been turned to revenue generating Board that has been subjecting poor parents to pain, and the young girls to immoral acts to meet the ever increasing means of purchasing the form, transportat to centres in distant towns, buying of scratch cards amongst others”, he said.

Alhaji Musa Liman Kwande holds the traditional title of Baraden (Generalismo) of Lafia in Nasarawa State, said that the National Assembly should assist in either scrapping the body or to legislate that the money for the purchase of form amongst others be reduced, for the youth to use the result for life like that of the West African Examination Council, ( WAEC ) and National Examination Council, (NECO) or to be valid within five years.

Alhaji Musa Kwande said about fifty percent of Nigerians struggle to save, fast, beg to raise money for the JAMB examination, but end up frustrated by JAMB as some universities also organized post-JAMB examination, while many universities all over the world just prefer School Leaving certificate or WAEC.

He recalled that his daughter passed JAMB, but was denied admission, but secured admission for her within 24 hours via email outside the country, she is now a Medical Doctor, while her classmates are still either just secured admission or are still under the extortion of JAMB.
