Zamfara state governor, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle has signed the revised budget of N127,333,400,000 for 2020 fiscal year into law.
A statement by the Special Adviser, Public Enlightenment, Media and Communications, Alhaji Zailani Bappa, said governor Matawalle assented to the new revised budget which was reviewed downward from it initial approved 2020 budget of N188, 549,559,140.
Matawalle said the review was due to the corona virus pandemic which has brought negative economic impact not only on the state and the country but the entire world.
He promised to ensure that the revised new budget will serve as realistic guide for the progress and development of the state.
It will be recalled that the Zamfara State House of Assembly earlier on Wednesday passed the review of 2020 budget bill.
The bill was passed after its first and second reading and extensive deliberations by the lawmakers.
Speaker, Nasiru Muazu Magarya said the review of the year 2020 budget became necessary considering the impact of COVID-19 pandemic challenges across the world.
“We are all aware of the socio economic challenges caused by COVID-19 globally, therefore, we have to agree with the realities and reduce the budget,” he said.
The breakdown of the revised budget indicates that initial budget 2020 is reduced by 20 percent.
Capital expenditure is now reduced to N68.3 billion as against earlier estimate of N117 billion while the recurrent expenditure is now reviewed to N59.3 billion from N71.3 billion.
