Commisioner for Health in Plateau, Dr Nimkong Lar has said 57 health workers have been infected with the dreaded COVID-19.
The commissioner who disclosed this during a press conference in Jos, said the workers were infected while undergoing their professional duties.
The health commissioner said the state has a total of 571 confirmed cases in the state with a record of 29 cases last Tuesday , which was the highest recorded so far in the state.
“We have conducted 9,039 test, we have 7,324 results and 1,715 pending while 571 are confirmed cases, 132 are on admission in our four treatment centres 260 discharged and have recorded 16 deaths,” he said.
He said that the state will soon organise COVID-19 community testing in the 17 Local Government Areas in the state which was voluntary, adding that it had a scheduled for conducting test in Government and Non-Government Organisations.
Also speaking at the press briefing, Commisioner for information and Communication, Mr Dan Manjang said government was going to take disciplinary action for civil servants who refused to submit themselves for COVID-19 test.
He said the exercise shall be made mandatory for them and refusal was a sign of insubordination which the Head of service of the state have been mandated to handle appropriately.
Meanwhile, Langtang North Local GovernmentCouncil, Chairman Hon Ubandoma Laven,has confirmed the two cases of Covid-19 disease and ordered for the shutting down of the Langtang general hospital.
The council boss directs that 29 health workers at the general hospital be quarantined.
