A fresh crisis is brewing up in Plateau State All Progressives Congress (APC) following the emergence of a splinter group within the ruling Party in the State.
The new group, ‘Plateau Rescue Front’, in a petition to President Muhammadu Buhari, accused the State Governor, Mr. Simon Lalong of high handedness and creating crisis within the the members of the Party.
The recent recent suspension of two council Chairmen by the State House of Assembly triggered the rift among Frontline members of the APC.
They accused the governor of masterminding the crisis and subsequent suspension of the two council Chairmen.
According to the group, the crisis allegedly fuel by the Governor will bring misfortune to the party.
Coordinator of the of the group, Mr. Francis Kwarpo the nine page petition to President Buhari alleged that governor Simon Lalong has in recent times, been single handedly running affairs of the party without key stakeholders inputs.
“Mr. President sir, we wish to bring to your notice that the original members of the APC in the state, who midwifed the victory of the party since 2015, have been sidelined, while people who contributed nothing to the success of the party, some whom were even known members of the opposition PDP have been brought into government enjoying patronage,” the petition read.
On the suspension of two council chairmen of Quanpan and Kanam local government areas, the group alleged that it was political victimization to hunt them because of their intentions to vie for the forthcoming senatorial bye-elections, following death of Senator Ignatius Longjan.
“The Local government chairmen, are being victimized; they were suspended from office simply on account of expressing their ambition to vie for the vacant senatorial seat,” he said.
The group told the President that other party starwalt who are eyeing the same legislative seat are being hunted.
“We are worried that the governor (Barr Simon Lalong) is planning to impose a candidate in the forthcoming senatorial elections in the southern Zone,” It stated.
Further more, the APC Plateau Rescue Front accused the governor of embarking on what they term as “white-elephant” projects with intension of abandoneding them.
“Reliable reports reaching us indicate that the 17 Legacy projects were not conceived with the aim of getting completed. For instance at an estimated cost of 2 Billion Naira per local government, it would cost the State about 37 Billion Naira, but surprisingly budgetary estimates have put the total cost to be 69 Billion Naira.”
It stressed further that “we also have a 16 roads projects in all the local governments which were awarded but later abandoned.”
Mr. Francis called the presidency to wade into the matter as a means of avoiding further rancor in the party affairs in Plateau state.
“That is why we are drawing the attention of Mr. President to intervene to save the image of the party on the Plateau.
