COVID-19 Committee To Enforce Safety Rules, As Plateau Records 8 Deaths, 330 Positive Cases

Following increased in COVID-19 infection cases and non compliance to safety rules of the Plateau State Government, the State Government will on Monday began massive policing and enforcement of six council areas of the state with highest positive cases of the pandemic.

Secretary to the Government of Plateau state, Prof. Danladi Atu, made the disclosure to newsmen at old government house during a press conference on Sunday.

Prof. Atu named the local government to be massively policed for mandatory compliance to COVID-19 safty rules to include Jos North, Jos South, Barkinladi, Mangu, Kanam and Kanke local government areas.

According to the SSG, the mentioned council areas are the most affected with positive cases of covid-19 due to non compliance to precautionary measures.

He warned that defaulters will be meant to face full wrath of the law.

It will be recalled that, the committee had shutdown a commercial Bank in Jos last week for two weeks, following recorded positive case of a staff of the bank.

Similarly, a medical facility in Rayfield Jos, was earlier lockdown following discovery of a covid-19 patient who allegedly absconded from a quarantine center.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Health in the State, Dr. Nimkong Lar, while giving update on the covid-19 pandemic in the state revealed that the state has recorded 8 deaths, four patients absconded from quarantine centers.

Dr. Lar said as at last count, Plateau state recorded 330 positive cases among whom are 41 health personnel, after testing 4076 patients, and have received results of 3471 persons, the rest of 605 been awaited.

Dr. Nimkong Lar said 156 persons have been treated and discharged from the hospital; 37 others are on self isolation in their residence.

The committee is mandated to ensuring total compliance to safety rules on covid-19.

It was gathered that, should the measures been taking do not bring a change in attitude of citizens to the covid-19, Plateau state government might embark on another round of total lockdown of Citizens.
