Kaduna Assembly Gets New Deputy Speaker, As Plot to Remove Speaker Fails

Members of the Kaduna State House Of Assembly elected and sworn the lawmaker representing Kauru Constituency, as the Deputy Speaker Of the House.

This followed the impeachment of the former Deputy Speaker, Mr. Mukhtar Isa Hazo who is allegedly plotting to removed the current Speaker. Mr. Yusuf Zailani.

The new Deputy Speaker is Dr. Isaac Auta, representing Kauru Constituency.
Auta’s emergency and swearing was followed with a rowdy session, as a member who objected to the impeachment of the for Deputy Speaker, attempted to steal the mace.

Hon. Auta was immediately sworn in by the Clerk of the Assembly, who administered oaths of office and allegiance on him.

The new Deputy Speaker emerged shortly after 24 members of the Assembly passed vote of no confidence on the former Deputy Speaker, Hon. Mukhtar Isa Hazo and impeached him.

Meanwhile, shortly after the swearing in, member representing Makera Constituency, Hon. Liman Dahiru broke into the floor of the Assembly and seized the mace.

However, before he could make his way out of the chamber, he was grabbed by the Sergeant at Arm, while other members quickly rushed in to retrieve the symbol of authority from him.

The plenary thereafter ended in a rowdy session, while the aggrieved member, Dahiru Liman was dragged out of the chamber and beating merciless.

Liman who had his dress torn, was later seen outside the assembly chamber displaying anger over the the impeachment of Hon. Hazo.

This paper understands that the impeached Deputy Speaker and Nine others lawmakers have commenced collecting signatures to impeach their Speaker, but the currently Speaker outsmarted them get the his Deputy impeached.

The former Deputy Speaker who emerged as a result of leadership change in less than four month, was anointed by by his other Nine colleagues to be the Speaker.
