As Zamfara records two index cases, the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Zamfara State has called on governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle to declare a two weeks lockdown in order to prevent coronavirus spread in state.
A statement signed by the President, MWAN Zamfara state, Dr Fatimah Abdulqadir said the action will go a long way in stopping the spread of the corona virus pandemic in the state.
“The state government should declare the curfew with a view of shutting down the state for a minimum of 14 days for effective prevention of possible community transmission of COVID-19 in the state,” she said.
The MWAN President commended the state government, ministry of Health and Heads of hospital institutions for the efforts they are making towards curbing the corona virus spread in the state.
“We recommend that the state government and institutional heads should continue with their efforts and; continue to involve stakeholders for health in decision making, in order to come up with an all encompassing effective strategy to curb COVID-19,” she added.
Dr Fatimah advocated that laboratories in tertiary health facilities be upgraded to carry out COVID-19 testing and also called on the state government to ensure that all health facilities are well equipped and staffed especially at the designated isolation centers.
“Make sure health workers are provided with the proper PPE, incentive and hazard allowance in all health facilities,” she appealed.
The MWAN President enjoined the people of the state to comply with the directives given on social distancing, hand hygiene, respiratory hygiene and self – isolation for returning travelers.
