The Plateau State Government in conjunction with two companies have commenced implementation of grazing reserves in the state.

The Director of press and public affairs to the governor of Plateau State, Dr. Makut Simon Macham, made the disclosure to Journalists.

According to Dr. Macham, Plateau state stand a great chance to benefit immensely financially.

“The State (Plateau) which is among the five selected  for the pilot phase will benefit from the N15 billion that has been earmarked, using a purely private sector led template.”

The statement noted that the implementation is been done by national Livestock Transformation Program (NLTP)

Both the Plateau state government and NLTP officials signed a memorandum of understanding to seal the deal.

It will be recalled that the proposed grassing reserve created lots of disharmony between government and most Plateau citizens who view the programme as another form of forceful land occupation by foreigners.

The Secretary to the Government of the State Prof. Danladi Atu signed on behalf of the Plateau state Government.

In his address, President on agriculture and coordinator of the NLTP, Andrew Kwasari said the programme has a lot of benefits to the Nigerians.

The operations will kick start at the Wase and Kanam local government grazing reserves, one at the southern part of the state, while the other is at the Central Plateau state.

“The two companies are to develop infrastructure and facilitate the establishment of diary, meat, foliage and related companies that will cut across various livestock species.”

The deputy governor of Plateau state, Prof. Sonni Tyoden among other top government officials graced the event held at government house Jos.
