The Kaduna State chapter of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) yesterday kicked against the idea of automatic ticket to the incumbent Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai should he decide to go for another term.
The youth leader of the Party, Mr. Umar Yahaya who told our correspondent in Kaduna, also ruled against automatic ticket for any elected or appointed politician within the ruling APC in the state.
According to the youth leader, any elected politician of the party shall be reelected either at the primaries or the general elections based on his performance while in office.
“There won’t be any automatic ticket to the governor or any elected politician within the APC in Kaduna State in 2019. We are a political party that believes in internal democracy.
“The opportunity will be made open for members of the party to view for any office of their choice; we will not force candidate on the people.
“Everybody, especially the ones that will be seeking reelection will be given the opportunity to vie for any office of their choice so long as they are qualified to do so.
“Those that will be seeking reelection shall be voted in for another term based on their previous performance,” he said.
According to him, APC is not a party that issue automatic ticket to governors and other elected members of the party. Our party believes in internal democracy and so shall it be even beyond 2019.”
He insisted that governor el-Rufai and other elected or appointed members of the party would have to slug it out with other members of the party at the party’s primaries ahead of the 2019 general elections.
“We are not Peoples Democratic Party, PDP who believes in automatic ticket. We are a party that believes in internal democracy and a party who believes in giving everybody the opportunity to vie for any office of their choice in the land,” he added.
