A kinsman of governor Simon Lalong, the incumbent member of the house of representatives, representing Shendam, Mikang/Quanpan federal constituency Johnbull Shekarau, has set to replace the political office of governor Simon Lalong in the forthcoming 2019 governorship elections in Plateau state.
Governor Lalong and Johnbull Shekarau who both hail from Shendam local government area of southern Plateau state speaks the Goemai language, though in different political parties.
Hon. Shekarau is contesting the governorship seat on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, he had served as member, Plateau state house of assembly, represented Shendam constituency.
Shekarau is the serving member, house of representative for Shendam, Mikang/Quanpan federal constituency at the national assembly.
It will be recalled that, two Goemai speaking persons who also hail from Shendam, Godfrey Bawa, an entrepreneur, and a two time council chairman of Shendam Kemi Nshe, had both declared their intentions for the office of the governor, on the platform of the PDP, to take over governor Lalong’s job.
Speaking with Journalists shortly after he submitted his letter of intent to contest governorship seat at PDP party secretariat in Jos on Monday, the governorship aspirant said if given the party mandate to contest the 2019 governorship seat, the party will be a force to recon with, and will surely be victorious.
Hon Shekarau assured that his administration shall prioritised education, healthcare, skill acquisition for youth and women, general welfare of citizens; and will stop high cost of governance.
“Plateau under my watch as governor will ensure qualitative education to all, and to every sector, teachers will be paid their entitlements as at when due, I will fixed the deporadable roads, particularly the numerous potholes, on our road next across the state. We shall reduce cost of governance to develop our state.”
“We will also ensure that portable drinking water is available everywhere in the state, that is one of the basic social amenities most successive administration have failed to provide to citizens; I will not pay lip service to any project and policy.” The PDP aspirant stated.
So far, the following PDP governorship aspirants are bent on replacing the incumbent governor of Plateau state, Rt Hon Simon Lalong, they include, Hon Johnbull Shekarau, Mr Godfrey Bawa, Engr Ponyah Ibrahim, Acrh Samuel Nanchang Jatau, Mr. Sam Abashe, a retired Army officer, Engr Jimi Cheto, Rt Hon George Daika, Yitmany Maimako, Gen Jeremiah Useni, Victor Lar, Kemi Nshe, among other several other PDP governorship aspirants in Plateau state, seeking to uproot governor Simon Lalong from government house.
Though the intention of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP to send parking the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC out of Plateau state government house come 2019 it still seems a dream, because the APC in Plateau state at the moment has a consensus candidate, the incumbent, governor Simon Lalong as it candidate for governorship seat.
