Governor Simon Lalong, of Plateau state on Monday presented a budget of 146 billion naira for 2019 fiscal year to the Plateau state house of assembly in Jos.
The governor presented the budget the state house of assembly during a special sitting.
Reviewing the out going year budget, the governor said Plateau state government received a total sum of 40 billion naira from the federation account.
“Statutory Revenue from Federation Government was Forty Billion, Four Hundred and Seventy-Nine Million, One Hundred and Twenty-Nine Thousand, One Hundred and Fifty-Seven Naira, Twenty-One Kobo (N40,479,129,157.21) only.”
Still on revenue generation, governor Lalong noted that internationally revenue generation stood at 76 billion.
“In the spirit of accountability, during the year under review (January – November, 2018), a total revenue of Seventy-Six Billion, Three Hundred and Thirty-Three Million, Six Hundred and Thirty-Four Thousand, Two Hundred and Fifty-Five Naira, Forty-Eight Kobo (N76,333,634,255.48) was realised from the following sources.”
According to the 2018 budget, health engulfed over 4 billion naira, Agriculture 2 billion naira, water and sanitation 10 billion, and 10 billion naira was expended on the education sector; overhead cost 4 billion and tourism and hospitality 337 million naira.
He said huge sum was spent on donor agencies “donor Projects amounting to Five Billion, Eight Hundred Million, Four Hundred and Sixty-Eight Thousand, Six Hundred and Eighty Four Naira (N5,800,468,684.00) only.”
Meanwhile, the state borrowed the sum of 6 billion as loan. “External Loans of Six Billion Naira (N6,000,000,000.00) only.”
The 2019 budget is less than that of 2018 appropriation bill “this budget is in deficit of the sum of Thirty-Nine Billion, Nine Hundred and Forty-Four Million, Four Hundred and Fifty-Eight Thousand, Nine Hundred and Thirty-Two Naira (N39,944,458,932.00) only. This represents 26.09% of the budget size. The deficit is to finance the expenditure side of the estimate and will be drawn from both internal and external sources, if the need arises during the course of budget implementation.
Speaking at the sitting, speaker of the Plateau state house of assembly, Joshua Madaki plead that he legislature will deliberate on the budget and pass it on time.
