About 10,000 rural dwellers in Zamfara state would benefit from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) free healthcare services under its Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) scheme every quarter.

This was disclosed by the Zamfara  state NYSC Coordinator, Hajiya Rahamatu Sanda while  while flagging-off the first quarter 2017  scheme at Jaurin-Rogo Village in Gusau local government area of the state, saying the scheme is targeting about 10,000 beneficiaries this first quarter of the year 2017 from the many communities selected for the programme.

Sanda said the scheme was initiated by the NYSC to assist rural dwellers with free medical and healthcare services, considering the health challenges faced by people in the rural areas.

“That is why the NYSC came up with this initiative to assist people especially the poor at the grassroots level and various diseases such as malaria, diabetes, cholera and typhoid would be treated during the outreach,’’ she said. Treatment should also be given to infections and conditions like the blood dyscrasia

The NYSC state cordinator added Medical Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, Medical Laboratory Scientists, Community Health Officers, NYSC health officials and members of NYSC health Community Development Service (CDS) group have been deployed for the exercise.

In his reaction, the Village Head of Jaurin-Rogo village, Alhaji Aliyu Usman commended the NYSC for selecting his community for the commencement of the programme in the state.
