The corps marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi has said a total of 1602 persons died of road crashes in 2017, between the months of September and December.
Dr. Oyeyemi stated this Tuesday in Jos, Plateau state, at the 2018 Ember months campaign flag off held, at the NTA junction motor park in Jos.
Giving other statics of road crashes within the stipulated months last year, the Federal road Safety boss revealed that 4503 vehicles were involved in the said accidents.
“In the months of September, October, November and December 2017, the total numbers of crashes recorded were 2805, numbers of death were 162, people involved were 20196, and vehicles involved were 4503.”

Dr. Oyeyemi expressed worries that most drivers in Nigeria drives with influence of alcohol and other hard substance, he warned that affected drivers should desist henceforth.
“The corps is going to be strict on its conduct of vision acuity test to make sure all drivers on the roads do not defective eyesight.”
Plateau state governor, Simon Lalong, represented by the commissioner for transport Mohammed Nazif, while speaking at the campaign for safety, said the Plateau state state government has concluded arrangements to create four parking garages for heavy duty vehicles coming into Jos, the state capital.
According to the governor, the indiscriminate manner which heavy duty vehicles been parked along major highways within Jos metropolis has become nuisance to the beauty and security of citizens.
The Plateau state commissioner for transport also revealed that plans are on the way to ensuing strict compliance to all rules and regulations by motorist both commercial and the private sector, as a menace in ensuing safety of persons and goods.
Addressing the gathering earlier, sector commander of the FRSC Plateau state command Patricia Emeordi, said the campaign will focus on abuse of safety measures by drivers while driving.

Mrs. Emeordi said FRSC Plateau state command is committed in ensuring safety of drivers, passengers and property.
She told the gathering that about 1600 unclaimed driver’s license are in the custody the FRSC Plateau state command.
It was learnt that most causes of road crashes are due to negligence on the part of drivers, and non observance of rules on the highways.
The event featured questions and answer section from commercial drivers, who pleaded for reduction in procedures for obtaining drivers licenses.
